Let us bring history to you! Teachers, are you too far away from Carnton Plantation and the Carter House, or unable to bring a group here? Check out our new traveling trunks that can be utilized in your classroom. You can currently choose from The Common Civil War Soldier and Civil War Medicine. Trunks feature real and reproduction artifacts, books, CDs, DVDs, and lesson plans to let you experience these two topics in your own classroom. Lesson plans in the trunks are easy to use and can be adapted to fit individual classroom needs. Each trunk features lesson plans for grades 2, 5, and 8.

How can I reserve a trunk?
o Please make sure to request the trunk as early as possible! Trunks will be sent out on a first come, first serve basis. We ask that you request your trunk at least 2 weeks prior to the pick-up date.
o Reservations can be made by contacting Megan Smith via email at email@example.com or by phone 615-794-0903.
o A reservation will be considered complete once you have received a confirmation email.
· Shipping Information
o Traveling Trunks are typically loaned out within the state of Tennessee. However, arrangements can be made to send trunks outside of the state.
o Each traveling trunk is to be returned to the Battle of Franklin Trust two (2) weeks from the rental date agreed upon by the Trust and the renter.
o Local schools may choose to pick up the trunk at Carnton Plantation (1345 Carnton Lane, Franklin, TN 37064). For schools that are further away, other arrangements will be made. Schools will be responsible for all shipping fees. It is important that your trunk be returned by the agreed upon date so that it can be sent out promptly to the next school.
o Please allow for at least two (2) days when returning the trunk to ensure that it is returned by the agreed upon date.
How much does renting a trunk cost?
o Schools are responsible for the shipping costs of the trunk. We will send the trunk through UPS Ground or the United States Postal Service, and request that when returned it be insured for $1,000.
o Schools that are not paying for shipping will be required to pay a $100 rental fee.

Utilizing The Trunk
o Trunks include lesson plans for grades 2, 5, and 8, as they are the grades in which the Tennessee State Standards cover the Civil War.
o Trunk contents will include:
- A binder with lesson plans
- An inventory that teachers will need to fill out upon receiving and returning the trunks
- Items, both original and replicas, that are relevant to the trunk topic
o Teachers that are renting the trunk are responsible for ALL contents within the trunk and their use.
o The Battle of Franklin Trust is not responsible for misuse or injury resulting from the contents of the trunk. Please make sure to review all contents before sharing with your class to determine what is appropriate for their use.
o The teacher renting the trunk is responsible for replacement costs (a fair market value) of any lost or unusable items. An inventory list is provided with all of the contents of the trunk that must be completed before returning the trunk. Please keep in mind that other teachers and students will be utilizing the trunk. We expect a reasonable amount of wear and tear, however teachers are responsible for any lost or unusable items.
o Items are to be used with adults present.
o For the Civil War Medicine Trunk: Children are NOT to handle sharp medical instruments. They are for viewing purposes only.
o The curriculum materials may be reproduced for educational purposes only, and must be credited to the Battle of Franklin Trust. Reproducing curriculum materials for any other purpose is prohibited without written permission from the Battle of Franklin Trust.
